1833 Capped Bust Half Dollar About Uncirculated (AU)53 PCGS Blue Label

The 1833 Capped Bust Half Dollar is an early U.S. silver classic designed by John Reich, struck in 89.24% silver and 10.76% copper. The obverse features Liberty wearing a capped bonnet with flowing curls, surrounded by thirteen stars, while the reverse displays a heraldic eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch beneath a banner inscribed “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” Graded AU53 by PCGS with the Blue Label, this example shows trace of wear on hair over eye and over ear consistent with the grade. The coin still has a good amount of original mint luster, though it may be diminished and more visible in protected areas.

1833 Capped Bust Half Dollar AU53 PCGS

Capped Bust Half Dollars hold a special place in American numismatics as one of the earliest widely circulated large silver coins. The 1833 issue connects collectors to the early 19th century, a formative time in U.S. coinage. With its PCGS certification and pleasing AU53 detail, this coin offers both historical significance and strong collectability for type sets or early half dollar collections.
